#2 Minute Read.
Stretching has been advised for decades, but many of the clients we see do actually know why we have to stretch. Whether you’re a gym goer, athlete, runner or the general public, stretching is a habit that should be added into your routine.
The question still remains… Why?…
Stretching has its overall benefits which includes:
- Reducing risk of injury.
- Passive stretching of muscles and tissues.
- Relaxation.
- Increasing blood flow.
- Releasing TrPs (Trigger Points).
- Breakdown of adhesions & scar tissues.
- Reducing hyperalgesia.
Stretching works by allowing the deep muscles fibres to glide over each other. On an every day basis, there is a certain level of elasticity which is present within the muscle fibres. These vary on the person, age, muscle groups, activity, past medical history and others. Nevertheless, not every muscle in the body will be stretched to its full capacity. By stretching you can allow the muscle to naturally stimulate all of its fibres as well as increasing the blood flow in the area. Subsequently, there is a reduction in the potential for trauma, injuries and dysfunctions.
